Exploration has been completed at 10 sites in Kazakhstan
containing deposits of rare earth metals. Prospecting was also carried out at
the Kuirektykol deposit in the Karagandy region, where industrial reserves are
estimated at about 20 million tonnes. In other regions of Kazakhstan, significant
quantities of tantalum and niobium have also been discovered, along with
deposits of lithium and other associated rare metals.
«In 2021, on the instructions of the government, work was
carried out at 12 sites, with activities completed at 10 of them. The next
stage involves exploration. The work will be conducted by investors. The issue
of transferring these sites to Tau-Ken Samruk is currently being worked out. A Canadian
company has obtained an exploration license,» noted Erlan Akbarov, Chairman of
the Geology Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Construction.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recently emphasized the importance
of developing rare earth elements in Kazakhstan. The country aims to attract
approximately 12 billion tenge in investments for this purpose. These funds will
not only support the development of existing reserves but also strengthen
Kazakhstan’s position in the global market for high-tech raw materials. The
latter has been showing a steady upward trend in prices, driven by the growing
production of electric vehicles and electronic devices.
