UN proclaims 2026 as International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development at Kazakhstan’s initiative

The year 2026 has been declared the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. The corresponding resolution on the initiative of Kazakhstan was adopted by the UN General Assembly. The document was co-authored by 54 member countries of the Organization. According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, the events planned for the International Year will give a powerful impetus to the volunteer movement at the national, regional, and global levels. These initiatives will contribute to the further strengthening of cooperation and the identification of key directions for the future development of volunteerism. It is noteworthy that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev places special emphasis on the development of volunteerism in the country, viewing it as one of the important components in building a Just Kazakhstan. To date, the number of volunteers in the country has reached 200,000 people.
