Transit cargo volume through Kazakhstan to reach 100 million tonnes

The volume of transit traffic through Kazakhstan by rail is expected to reach 100 million tonnes by 2035, according to forecasts by international experts. Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev reported this at a government meeting. He noted that over the past 10 years, the volume of transit shipments has doubled, exceeding 27 million tonnes last year. The target for this year is 33 million tonnes. Currently, five international railway corridors pass through the country. To boost volumes, an automated transport management platform is being introduced. It facilitates planning and forecasting of loads, thereby improving wagon turnover.

«The delivery time along the Trans-Caspian Transport Route has been reduced from 53 to 17 days. Over the past three years, tariffs have remained stable and have not changed since 2023. Digital technologies are being introduced to improve service quality. Processing time has been cut from eight hours to 30 minutes, and train movements are tracked online, ensuring unimpeded transit. Work will soon begin on preparing an intergovernmental agreement for the further development of the route,» Sauranbayev noted.
