State Counselor Erlan Karin has
shared his thoughts on social media regarding the law to combat gambling
addiction, recently signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Karin
highlighted that this legislation is the fifth law enacted as part of the
initiatives proposed during the third meeting of the National Kurultai.
In his speech in Atyrau, the Head
of State identified gambling addiction as one of the main social evils and
called for the law to be passed by the end of the current Parliamentary
session. The bill underwent extensive discussion on various dialogue platforms,
leading to the adoption of a Comprehensive Plan to Combat Illegal Gambling
Business this spring. This plan also includes measures for the rehabilitation
of citizens suffering from gambling addiction, with specialist monitoring
conducted under strict medical confidentiality rules. One of the key aspects of
the bill, according to Karin, is the introduction of restrictive measures for
the approximately 3.5 million individuals listed in the Unified Register of Debtors.
