SCO countries to enhance cooperation in combating terrorism

The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are set to join forces to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism. A corresponding program document for 2025-2027 was signed yesterday on the sidelines of the Astana summit by the leaders of the SCO member states. It includes a comprehensive set of theoretical and practical measures aimed at suppressing the activities of criminal organizations, particularly those involved in financing and disseminating various ideological values. In an exclusive interview with Jibek Joly TV channel, Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) Executive Committee Ruslan Mirzayev discussed the actions the Shanghai Ten countries will take to enhance security measures on their territories. The special guest of the mobile studio at the summit shared the committee’s achievements over the past 20 years and in 2023.

«Over the past 20 years, we have conducted 19 joint anti-terrorism exercises, eight joint border operations, and four cyber exercises. Last year, through joint efforts and the exchange of up-to-date information between our relevant bodies and special services, around 750 terrorist and extremist crimes were investigated, and nearly 180 terrorist acts were prevented,» Mirzayev said.
