The significance of the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO) is increasing in the modern world, particularly
in light of new global and regional challenges and threats. The SCO member
countries continue to actively seek solutions and explore new forms of
cooperation in security and maintaining stability. As the SCO chair, Kazakhstan
has also carried out work in this area, focusing efforts on combating
cybercrime, drug trafficking, and transnational organized crime, as highlighted
by political scientist Iskander Akylbayev. Providing support to Afghanistan and
promoting its integration into the regional economy plays a significant role in
this regard. Kazakhstan remains committed to consolidating international
efforts aimed at assisting the Afghan people.
«What is happening in
Afghanistan, it’s a very big concern not only for Kazakhstan but also for
China, for India, for Pakistan, for Iran. And I think one of those key aspects
that Kazakhstan proposed during its chairmanship is certainly Astana
Declaration, where one of the key elements is a world unity and harmony where
we are, as a responsible player on a global stage, are trying to propose a
multilateral and constructive diplomatic mechanism for the solution of global
problems or on the regional scale. One of those aspects was certainly a
development program for countering extremism and separatism. And I think
another one is a regional anti-drug trafficking program that is spanning from
2025 until 2029. This is also a very much important regional concern because it
not only involves a country but also people, the young generation,» Akylbayev
said.
