In eastern Kazakhstan, the expansion of the road leading to the
Maikapchagai border checkpoint with China has been completed. The large-scale
reconstruction was carried out on the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev. The access road was widened from two to six lanes, which will have a
positive impact on international transit between Kazakhstan and China. Notably,
the Kalbatau-Maikapchagai highway is a key link in the international corridor
connecting Kazakhstan, Russia, and China. One of the largest infrastructure projects
in the country, 415 kilometers of new roadway, was built by nearly 2,000
specialists. Engineers conducted regular quality inspections. The road is now
ready to handle vehicle and cargo traffic.
«All major reconstruction works have now been completed, with
landscaping currently underway. Almost 2.5 billion tenge have been allocated
for this stage, which is scheduled for completion by the end of November,» noted Daulet Serikbayev, chief specialist at the regional
branch of the KazAvtoZhol National Company.
«Thanks to the construction of the six-lane transit corridor on the Kazakh side of Maikapchagai, capacity has increased significantly and queues have been reduced. I believe this project contributes to the development of logistics and strengthens relations between the two countries,» said project manager Maksutbek Salimgozhinov.
The next stage involves modernizing the access roads to the checkpoint.
The six-lane highway now reaches the border terminal, where a large truck
parking area is under construction. An electronic queuing system, CarGoRuqsat,
will also be introduced. The launch of this transport corridor provides a new
boost to Kazakhstan’s transit potential.
