After the October Revolution of 1917, church bells were especially hated by the new government. Their toll was considered as harmful, and by the beginning of the 30s, all church bells went silent. Subsequently, they were destroyed along with the temples, smashed, smelted ‘for the needs of industrialization’ and even sold abroad.
And the same misfortune happened to the bells of the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, a unique bronze pair, cast in foundry named after Alexander Stepanovich Lavrov, located in Gatchina, Saint-Petersburg Governorate.
