This photograph was taken in 1985. It features a new building of the Central State Museum of the Kazakh SSR.
This unique photo was kept in Almaty amateur photographer Yuri Tarasov’s private archive. The photo was taken during a short period when the construction of the building was finished but the decoration of the garden square in front of it haven’t started yet. That is why the photograph creates an illusion that the museum is situated on the territory of some natural resort rather than in the city centre. The absence of high-rise buildings on the ride side of the picture only intensifies this impression. They will appear here in 6 years, when the construction of model districts “Samal-1” and “Samal-2” will be finished.
