The implementation of
the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Natural Gas Pipeline project
was discussed at a meeting in Ashgabat. Participants highlighted its importance
for strengthening regional and global energy security. Also, the initiative
will help create new jobs and stimulate economic growth in the participating
countries. Notably, it not only aims to expand Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy
sector but also to establish a new system for transporting energy resources to
global markets. The pipeline will stretch over 1,800 kilometers and have a
capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
«We made a good progress regarding the
implementation of the Herat section of the TAPI project. All the TAPI member
countries are working to pave the way for the implementation of the project. I
see a huge potential in the energy sector in Turkmenistan. So from this, we
understand the importance of Turkmenistan in terms of the energy market and we
hope that all the original countries benefit from this opportunity,» said
Nazeem Samoon, head of the TAPI project.
«I would like to reemphasize that the TAPI pipeline is
a very critical project for all member states. And it has very positive
implications on building future relationships and possible prospects for all
countries involved,» noted Muhammad Aamir Khan, Chief Financial Officer of
Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy.
