Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made another address to the people of Kazakhstan. He pointed out that the government has set for itself lofty goals. He also noted the particular importance of today’s address, emphasizing that it will stretch not for one year, but is large-scale and meaningful. “Together we started building New Kazakhstan,” the President said. He also assured that all those responsible for the tragic January events would be duly punished.
“During the events of Tragic January and the subsequent state of emergency, about 2,000 people were detained for various offenses. At the time I gave instructions to the Prosecutor General's Office to establish the degree of their offense and, in the absence of aggravating circumstances, to mitigate the punishment. As a result, many citizens were released. At the same time, those who have committed serious crimes will be held fully accountable before the law. To act differently, to meet halfway the screamers, provocateurs and populists, means betraying the memory of the victims,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
