Parliamentary reform - continuation of political transformations

Parliamentary reform is one of the steps of a large-scale political modernization launched several years ago by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. At its core lies a clearly defined concept: Strong President - Influential Parliament - Accountable Government. The transformation of the entire representative branch of power will enable the legislative body to fully reflect the interests and will of the citizens. Broad discussion is needed to prepare a quality document, note the members of the working group on parliamentary reform.

«Since 2019, the Head of State has initiated several packages of large-scale political reforms. One of the most significant was the reform carried out in 2022 regarding the powers of the President. The current parliamentary reform is a continuation of this systemic transformation. Based on the opinions expressed during upcoming discussions, extensive work will be carried out. Therefore, we will make every effort to ensure that these discussions are conducted openly and take the views of the people into account,» said Yelnur Beisenbayev, member of the Mazhilis, Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.

«We have a significant amount of work ahead throughout the year. Within our working group, we have already established our procedures and defined the process for collecting proposals. Starting today, large public mechanisms such as eGov and e-Otynish have been activated, enabling citizens to submit their suggestions. In addition, we will need to organize our work in such a way as to arrange the maximum number of discussions and ensure the development of a high-quality document,» noted Aidos Sarym, member of the Mazhilis, Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
