The 230th kidney transplant was performed in Shymkent. The
patient’s father was the donor. Seven years ago, Meyirzhan Maden was diagnosed
with chronic kidney disease. Medication did not help, and in recent months, he
had been living on hemodialysis. Seeing his son’s suffering, Nurlybai
Mussabekov decided to give him a chance at a new life. Both patients are now
feeling well.
«I am no longer dependent on dialysis, and it’s such a
relief. My father gave me a second chance at life, and I will be forever
grateful to him. Now, I dream of returning to a full life,» Maden said.
«Thank God, the surgery went well. I’m grateful to the
doctors for their hard work. We both feel better now. Of course, I was worried,
but seeing my son smile again means everything. Now, we can return to normal
life together,» Mussabekov said.
This type of surgery was first performed in Shymkent 12
years ago. At present, patients from abroad also choose local surgeons for
treatment.
«We conduct thorough patient examinations, check for genetic
compatibility, and admit them for surgery as planned. We always strive to help
those in need of medical care,» said Sabitkhan Baitemirov, Head of the Transplantology
Department at Shymkent City Hospital No. 1.
A total of 260 organ transplants were performed in
Kazakhstan last year, with most from related donors. Currently, 3,500 citizens
are in need of kidney transplants.
