The Otandastar forum in Astana
brought together about 200 ethnic Kazakhs living in 40 countries across the
world. Among them are leaders of ethnic associations, activists and famous
figures, as well as researchers, teachers, representatives of culture,
business, media and politics. The forum featured sessions devoted to the role
of Kandas people in the country’s development, the modern driving force for
promoting national values, mass media and its latest trends, and particularly,
the Kazakh language, its role, potential, and opportunities in the 21st
century.
“These sessions aim to not only
discuss various current issues concerning our compatriots abroad but also share
solutions, ongoing projects, and exchange experience. At this event, we strive
to establish contacts and cooperation between our local structures and Kandas
people engaged in similar pursuits abroad,” said Otandastar Foundation
President Abzal Saparbekuly.
Anara Baizhanova, the president
of the Turkistan international platform for the Kazakh diaspora based in
Istanbul, Turkey, emphasized the organization’s proactive support for fellow compatriots
living abroad, which handles various issues brought forth by the community,
whose members strive to foster unity and cohesion. This is testified by an active
and voluntary engagement in missions to help Turkish citizens affected by an
earthquake.
“Today, we’ve heard numerous
ideas for consolidating Kazakhs around the world, along with a lot of proposals
that would help preserve our common culture and traditions. Distance is not a
problem at all. The love for our motherland thrives in our hearts, and we stand
ever ready to help our fellow Kazakhs who find themselves in difficult situations
and need help,” Baizhanova shared.
Malik Otarbayev, the advisor to
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, delivered a welcome letter on behalf of
the Head of State, who congratulated the forum participants. The President
stressed the importance of bolstering connections with Kazakhs abroad comprehensively,
noting that all conditions have been created for those willing to return to
their historical homeland.
