Students in Kazakhstan will be trained in the production of special effects. There has not yet been a corresponding discipline in any film school or university in the country. A new educational institution in the field of media with an American teaching methodology is opening in Almaty. According to experts, the film industry still has a shortage of highly qualified personnel, particularly, in such disciplines as directing, screenwriting, editing, even more so in digital format. Experts said that it is necessary to follow global trends and, of course, be able to apply them to achieve success in the modern film industry, given the fact that technologies in the sector are rapidly developing. The new educational institution will have a system of grants. 100 places are expected to be allocated for this academic year.
“In addition to digital film and production, i.e. digital production of cinema and television, it is also planned to open a new discipline this year. It can be called in different ways: production design, motion design, or, more simply – production of special effects, which will grow into game design in the future. This is a discipline that Kazakhstan does not have,” said Gulnara Abikeyeva, President of Kazakhstan’s Association of Film Critics.
