The construction of a major international highway in Central Asia is nearing completion in Shymkent. It is expected to be operational in both directions by the year-end. The A2 highway connects several countries, including Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan. The route begins in Almaty and passes through Bishkek and Tashkent, the capitals of two neighboring countries, as well as other cities. The construction of the highway has prioritized the use of solid materials capable of withstanding heavy loads, as it will be utilized by heavy trucks. Additionally, the highway has been significantly widened from nine to 20 meters. In his state-of-the-nation address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of road construction quality in the country, calling for the use of innovative methods and advanced solutions.
«We are planning to open all sections of the road this year, as it connects the routes ‘Tashkent—Turkistan—Almaty’. All southern transit vehicles pass through this road,» said Rolan Ibragimov, head of Passenger Transport and Highway Department.
