Kazakhstan will hold a snap presidential election on November 20. The corresponding decree, signed by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was published on the Akorda website. The Head of State announced the holding of extraordinary elections in his state-of-the-nation address on September 1. The law limiting the presidential term to a single seven-year period without the right to re-election was signed on September 17.
“This election is launching an electoral cycle that will lead to a radical reset of the entire political system. This will allow us to continue to focus on solving long-term tasks to ensure sustainable economic growth and improve the well-being and quality of life of citizens,” noted Tokayev.
The election campaign will be conducted in strict accordance with the law, he said. The Head of State called on all citizens to show responsibility, to observe law and order, and to show cohesion and unity of Kazakh people. He also announced that he will soon present his Election Manifesto, which will outline new initiatives aimed at achieving socio-economic progress.

In particular, he said that the future deputies of the Mazhilis and Maslikhats will be elected according to the new mixed system that will include party lists and single-mandate districts. He also mentioned the creation of the Constitutional Court, which will begin its work from January next year. In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights has acquired a constitutional status.
