In Kazakhstan, work is underway
to modernize the sports infrastructure. Thus, the construction of an Olympic
training base in the Almaty region is nearing completion. The facility
operating year-round will accommodate over 2,000 athletes simultaneously
training in 23 Olympic sports, as announced by Kazakh Minister of Tourism and
Sports Yermek Marzhikpayev. He also noted that the Kazakhstan Olympic Team is
actively preparing to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games scheduled to
be held in Paris.
“The national teams are planning
to participate in 20 sports disciplines. As of today, Kazakh athletes have
secured 17 Olympic licenses across eight sports. There is still time, and I
believe our athletes will work on this actively. Ahead, there are around 90
qualifying competitions, providing an opportunity to increase the number of
Olympic licenses,” said Marzhikpayev.
Additionally, the minister
announced that the construction of the National Sports University is underway,
with plans to put it into operation in a year. Overall, 113 new sports
facilities will be built in Kazakhstan within two years. There are also plans
to launch the project ‘100 prefabricated, cost-effective modular sports
facilities’ starting next year. It is aimed at increasing the percentage of
Kazakh citizens regularly engaging in physical activity and sports to 50
percent by 2029.
