Kazakhstan will assist Afghanistan in wheat
cultivation through a project launched in the western part of this country by
the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), with the support of the Kazakh
government and in partnership with Türkiye. The programme is aimed at helping
Herat province, which was hit by a devastating earthquake last year. Overall,
300 Afghan farmers will receive comprehensive support, including seeds and
equipment. In particular, 15 tonnes of high-quality wheat and dozens of necessary
fertilizers, along with tractors, combines, ploughs, and other agricultural
machinery, have been provided to the region, which has been struggling with
prolonged drought. Support for Afghan farmers extends beyond material aid. The
project also offers training programmes on best agricultural practices.
«We will train Afghan farmers to effectively use these
improved seed varieties, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery. We want to
create an opportunity for Afghan farmers to improve their crop productivity, particularly
wheat, which is a staple food in Afghanistan. Another key aspect is reducing
post-harvest losses,» said IOFS Assistant Director General Khusrav Noziri.
