A Kazakh-made metabiotic based on
mare’s milk is being prepared for export. The unique product developed by
Nazarbayev University scientists sparked the interest of pharma companies in
Central Asia and Japan. Located in the Karagandy region, an enterprise for
producing the miraculous medicine supplies pharmacies across the country. It
took almost ten years for the scientists to study the remedy. With the Science
Fund’s support, they completed the research and finally commercialized the
product.
“In 2017, we received a grant of
300 million tenge to implement a project on developing the metabiotic, which
involved not only commercialization but also determined the biological safety
and effectiveness of the medicine. This drug is a biologically active supplement,
a non-pharmaceutical product, recommended to be taken mainly after antibiotic
therapy for various dysbiotic disorders starting at the age of three,” noted
Samat Kozhakhmetov, project’s author and senior researcher of Microbiome Laboratory
at Nazarbayev University.
The condition of the entire human
body depends on the gut microbiota and metabolism, the laboratory staff said.
The metabiotic they developed has a wide range of effects. It normalizes
metabolism, improves the condition in disorders, slows down the aging process,
and has a positive impact on women’s reproductive health.
“The product developed by Kazakh
scientists is based on research on the microbiota of the country’s citizens. It
is made of a mare’s milk powder, which contains a unique composition of
vitamins and trace elements. It is genetically familiar to our people and
thereby very comfortably and easily absorbed by our intestines. Also, it gives
therapeutic properties to the metabiotic,” shared Dinara Zhakupova, commercial
partner of metabiotics production company.
“A disturbed metabolism is one of
the causes of infertility. When I have women with such complaints, I advise
them to regulate their metabolism, nutrition, sleep and sports to prepare for
pregnancy and give birth to a healthy baby. We must pay much attention to the
health of our future generation,” said Aizhan Rakymbai, integrative
obstetrician-gynaecologist.
Nazarbayev University’s
microbiome laboratory conducts extensive metagenome research. Scientists have
several projects related to it, for instance, biobank gut microbiome samples, collecting
its data from birth to old age. Researchers publish the results of the first
studies in international journals.
