Kazakhstan plans to export renewable energy to Europe

Kazakhstan is set to export green energy to Europe, as announced by Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev. The country has entered into an agreement on cooperation in the development of alternative energy sources and the transportation of clean electricity to prospective markets alongside with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The document signed during the Tashkent International Investment Forum primarily entails implementing a project to lay a joint high-voltage cable along the Caspian Sea bed. As noted by Satkaliyev, Azerbaijani counterparts are now studying a project for laying a similar cable along the Black Sea bottom. Overall, the countries aim to export energy generated from renewable sources specifically to premium global markets.

“We are talking about a fairly large amount of investment. The country is set to use around seven gigawatts, and Uzbekistan - five gigawatts of power. We aim to utilize the wind energy potential of the Caspian and Aral Sea regions for export deliveries. We have now started to develop the feasibility study, according to which the construction terms will be determined. We plan to obtain preliminary results for the feasibility study by year-end,” said Satkaliyev.
