Today, International Book Giving Day is being celebrated
worldwide. For the first time, it was marked at the new Comfortable School in
Karagandy, which has its own library that was recently enriched with new books.
Among them, the highlight of the collection is one of the oldest works by Yusuf
Balasaguni «Kutadgu Bilig» (Wisdom of Royal Glory), which the philosopher once
presented to a khan. Experts believe this event marked the beginning of the
Turkic tradition of book giving.
«The Turkic philosopher Yusuf Balasaguni presented «Kutadgu
Bilig» to Suleyman Arslan Khan in 1070, which, I believe, was the beginning of
the tradition of giving books,» said librarian Gulzat Abeuova.
