Kazakh-Kyrgyz cooperation is
developing in the spirit of strategic partnership. Today, Kazakh President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov held talks in a narrow
format, as well as participated in the meeting of the Supreme Interstate
Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The parties agreed to continue the
dynamics of cooperation. Last year, mutual trade between the two countries
increased by more than a quarter, reaching $1.5 billion. There are plans to
boost it up to $2 billion. Kazakhstan is ready to ramp up exports of 195
commodity items. The Head of State noted that the visit of President Japarov,
as well as the signing a historic document will give impetus to the mutual partnership.
“Today, we will sign a historic document
which is expected to open up broad opportunities for the development of
bilateral contacts. There is no doubt about this. We look at this with great
hope. We have all the necessary potential. I am confident that the meeting of
the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will contribute to
further expanding the areas of cooperation and take our partnership to a new
level,” said President Tokayev.
“Today’s event will contribute to
further strengthening of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations. It is gratifying that our
talks are taking place in the spirit of traditional allied and strategic ties.
Kyrgyzstan pursues a foreign policy aimed at deepening bilateral relations with
Kazakhstan. It is important to support each other, think about the future, and
jointly resolve problems. The executive authorities of Kyrgyzstan are taking
appropriate measures to implement the decisions of Supreme Interstate Council
of the two countries. I am confident that these meetings will give a new
impetus to mutual cooperation,” said Kyrgyz President Japarov.
To enhance the cooperation, the
parties have agreed to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Council and
the Interregional Forum, as well as to launch a trade and logistics complex
under construction at the border. It is planned to establish joint enterprises
and research institutes in the field of agriculture. Regarding investment
projects, Kazakhstan’s businesses are set to allocate funds for the
construction of renewable energy facilities and a ferroalloy plant in
Kyrgyzstan. The parties have also agreed to coordinate cooperation in the water
and energy sector. In total, seven documents were signed following the
negotiations, including an agreement on investment protection, an exchange of
experience in digitization, and a roadmap for the development of road border
crossing points. President Tokayev awarded Japarov the Order of Dostyk
(Friendship) of first degree for his significant contribution to the
development and strengthening of bilateral relations.
