Kazakhstan enters “red” zone in terms of coronavirus spread

Kazakhstan entered the “red” zone in terms of the coronavirus spread, the country’s Health Ministry reported. Only in the past day, 1,445 more cases of infection with the deadly virus were detected. More than a third of them, 545 people, caught the infection in the city Almaty. 204 patients were infected in the capital of Kazakhstan.

Moreover, quarantine measures are being tightened starting today in Nur-Sultan. According to the new decree of the Chief Sanitary Doctor, the opening hours of shopping and entertainment centers on weekdays will be reduced until five in the evening. They will be closed on weekends. Catering facilities on Saturday and Sunday will be allowed to work only for delivery and takeaway. Visits to cinemas, bowling alleys and children’s entertainment centers are prohibited. Students and schoolchildren switch to the distance format, with the exception of graduating students. Meanwhile, according to the Public Health Department, to date, 11,000 residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We have the opportunity to make more than 70,000 shots of the vaccine per month. All medical organizations are prepared for this now, they have all the necessary technical equipment and trained staff. The question now depends on the supply of the vaccines, and we are ready to implement this. Now we have the first component of the vaccine for a week’s supply. There is a little more of the second component, of course, but it is not time to use it yet,” said Timur Muratov, Head of Public Health Department, Nur-Sultan Mayoral Office.

Nur-Sultan and Almaty cities as well as Atyrau and West Kazakhstan regions are in the “red” zone in terms of the coronavirus spread. The situation is a little better in Aktobe, Almaty and Karagandy regions, which are in the “yellow” zone. All other regions are in the safe “green” zone.
