Kazakhstan begins rollout of QazVac COVID-19 vaccine

Mass vaccination of the population with a domestic COVID-19 vaccine QazVac started in Kazakhstan. Kazakh Health Minister Alexey Tsoy was one of the first to get the jab. He did it live on TV. The first vaccine batch of 50,000 doses was delivered to the regions of the country.

“We have clear schedules for each region of Kazakhstan of when the vaccine is delivered. There should not be an acute shortage of it. Most importantly, Kazakh citizens have seen that the vaccine is safe and effective, and that the antibody titres are increasing. To date, every 20th Kazakh resident has already been vaccinated,” Tsoy said.

Coronavirus cases continue to grow despite the immunization of the population. Kazakhstan reported 2,716 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Single-day increase in cases in the city of Almaty continues to rank the highest in the country and amounts to 693. Nur-Sultan detected 475 new positive cases of infection. According to the data of Kazakh Health Ministry, total COVID-19 cases in the country have reached almost 310,000.
