The Turkistan region witnessed its first liver transplant. A 19-year-old girl became a donor for her mother, Ulyana Nurmetova, who had been on the waiting list for years. The 48-year-old woman could not afford to wait any longer due to her worsening condition, and her daughter donated her part of the liver. The seven-hour surgery, carried out with advanced technology and medical professionalism, was successfully completed.
«When we learned about this surgery, hope
emerged for a second chance at life. We persuaded the doctor, underwent a full
examination, and had advisory. My mother’s condition was critical, her skin had
turned bright yellow. Now she is stable, feeling well, and already walking just
a couple of days after the surgery. Many thanks to the doctors for all of this!»
said donor Elvira Sakhaviddinova.
Kazakhstan’s chief transplant surgeon,
Bolatbek Baimakhanov, assisted local doctors, who now plan to conduct complex operations
independently. Two more transplants are scheduled this year. Ultimately, the
most important thing is the opportunity to give someone a long-awaited chance
at life.
«Anyone who becomes a donor must be healthy,
with no diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney, or liver diseases. In this case,
we conducted extensive medical testing of the young woman. Such surgeries must
be completely safe for both the donor and recipient,» noted Zhanbolat
Dildabekov, head physician of the clinical hospital in the Turkistan region.
