Kazakh President issues directives to address flood consequences and assist victims

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov presented President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with a report on efforts to mitigate the consequences of floods and assist citizens affected by the natural disaster. The Head of State instructed to intensify these efforts, provide those affected with quality housing, and commence repairs and construction of civil infrastructure in cities and residential areas. Heads of local executive bodies are obliged to actively and efficiently work with citizens, provide explanations on public policy and the measures taken to address emerging issues and reasonable demands. To date, over 24,000 Kazakh families have received one-time payments exceeding nine billion tenge. More than 200 families whose housing was destroyed have moved into new homes and apartments. Meanwhile, the construction of 658 new houses for flood victims is underway in the Aktobe, Pavlodar, West and North Kazakhstan regions. Efforts to compensate for damages are ongoing and are under strict government supervision.
