Kazakh peacekeepers mark 100 days on mission in Golan Heights

The second group of Kazakh peacekeepers is set to be deployed to the Golan Heights in March 2025, replacing the first group of national military personnel. Recently, 100 days were marked since the deployment of the Kazakh peacekeeping contingent to the disputed area between Israel and Syria. A total of 139 personnel are serving, including staff officers, special unit soldiers, military observers, and doctors. The peacekeepers carry out various tasks to maintain the ceasefire between the conflicting parties.

«The military personnel carry out their UN mission by patrolling, reinforcing military observer checkpoints, evacuating the wounded and UN personnel, neutralizing explosive devices, providing medical assistance, and guarding the peacekeeping base. The peacekeepers are provided with all necessary resources to accomplish these tasks,» said Sukhrab Appazov, Deputy Commander of the Kazakh peacekeeping contingent.

Female military staff are also among the Kazakh peacekeepers in the Golan Heights. Women’s participation in peacekeeping missions across any country is a requirement of the UN.

«For women, serving is not difficult at all. We were emotionally and mentally prepared. We put into practice the knowledge acquired during peacekeeping training. This is my first time participating in a peacekeeping mission and my first combat experience,» Dinara Zhauarova, nurse at the medical unit of the Kazakh peacekeeping contingent, said.

It is worth noting that the Middle East is not the only region where Kazakh peacekeepers serve. Currently, domestic military personnel are participating in missions in Lebanon, Western Sahara, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
