Kazakh Parliament sums up outcomes of third session of eighth convocation

Kazakhstan’s Parliament has concluded its political season, wrapping up the third session of the eighth convocation. Lawmakers have gone on recess, but much work still lies ahead, stated Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Mazhilis, the lower house of Parliament, during a joint session of both chambers. According to him, during the reporting period, Parliament had nearly completed the legislative initiatives set out in the President’s election program. The results of the latest session proved the effectiveness of the formula: «a strong President – an influential Parliament – an accountable Government.»

«We remain firmly committed to the President’s strategy, which is grounded in the needs of our citizens and the interests of the nation. This principle clearly guides our actions and helps us stay united in a constructive direction. The key priorities outlined by the Head of State at the start of the current session in his address to the people of Kazakhstan set a dynamic pace for our work. The strategic ideas put forward during the National Kurultai (Congress) focused parliamentary efforts on addressing society’s most pressing demands. During this session, Parliament had nearly fulfilled the set of initiatives outlined in the President’s election program,» Koshanov said.

During the session, Parliament held around 40 plenary meetings, reviewed 158 draft laws, and adopted 89, including the Tax Code, Budget Code, and Water Code. Particular attention was given to social support, healthcare, and judicial system reforms. Now, members of Parliament will continue their work in the regions, engaging with voters and working on the ground. In the upcoming session, the legislative agenda will focus on the Construction Code, as well as laws on crime prevention, consumer rights protection, banking and financial activities, and other important pieces of legislation.
