The first 20 educational institutions as part of the
Comfortable School national project are set to be commissioned this year, as
announced by Kazakh Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev at the Government’s
meeting. Repairs in 222 schools, including those affected by the spring floods,
will be completed before the start of the academic year. Beisembayev also noted
that restoration work is underway at 40 educational facilities. Additionally,
the installation of Starlink satellite internet in schools not connected to the
global network is nearing completion. The country’s Prime Minister Olzhas
Bektenov has instructed the Ministry of Education to focus on enhancing the
quality of education.
«It is important to set new quality requirements across all
levels of education. Comfortable schools should become the key standard in
secondary education. Other schools should be renovated to meet this level,» Bektenov
said.
Issues related to higher education were also discussed at
the meeting. This year, over 94,000 educational grants have been allocated,
with 1,890 for studies at branches of leading foreign universities opening in
the country. Notably, 27 such universities will begin operating in Kazakhstan,
with seven starting this academic year. The focus is not only on increasing the
number of universities but also on their quality. According to the Ministry of
Science and Higher Education, regional universities are also undergoing
transformation; they have started transitioning to more in-depth research
activities, establishing and strengthening international cooperation.
«The new law on science also includes measures to support
and encourage young scientists, such as raising salaries, providing additional
allowances, addressing housing issues, and increasing grants. Overall, we
should focus on guiding scientists towards scientific creativity and solving
specific problems,» said Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher
Education Sayasat Nurbek.
