Kazakhstan has begun exporting wheat flour to the U.S. market. Fifty tonnes have already been shipped to New York. The products are now sold on major online platforms, Amazon and Walmart, under the brand Eurasian Legacy, and are also used in American bakeries. The packaging indicates the origin as Product of Kazakhstan. According to QazTrade, this helps shape the image of Kazakhstan as a supplier of high-quality and environmentally friendly products, which is precisely why domestic products are valued abroad. Negotiations are currently underway for supplying flour to American restaurants, and the possibility of entering the country’s retail chains is being considered. The shipments are being carried out as part of the new strategy for promoting national Kazakh products in the U.S. In the future, the plan is to increase volumes to 100 tonnes per month. In his state-of-the-nation address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to accelerate economic diversification, with a focus on deep processing, including in the agro-industrial sector.
«In addition to flour, we have also prepared test
batches of other products, such as vegetable oil, buckwheat, talkan (ground roasted barley or wheat), and chocolate - around a tonne in
total. We are trying to promote them primarily through retail, because to
achieve sustainable exports, we need to enter the retail market. In this way,
our customers, who ‘vote with their dollar,’ will help us establish consistent
exports,» said Aitmukhammed Aldazharov, Chief Executive Officer of
the QazTrade Center for Trade Policy Development.
