In Astana, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev laid flowers at
the Otan Ana Monument to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory
and honored the memory of Kazakh soldiers with a moment of silence. The
Presidential Orchestra performed the National Anthem, and the Honor Guard
Company marched in a ceremonial procession.
Over 1.2 million Kazakh citizens participated in the war,
with one in every four residents of the country called to the front. More than
500 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Many also contributed
on the home front: nine out of every ten bullets fired at the enemy were
produced in Kazakhstan.
Kazakh President arrives in Russia for events marking 80th
anniversary of Great Victory
At the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, the Head of
State arrived in Russia to take part in events marking the 80th anniversary of
the Great Victory. While in Moscow, Tokayev is also scheduled to hold a series
of meetings with foreign leaders.
