The V International Scientific Forum
«Nuclear Science and Technologies» is taking place in Almaty. The event is
dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of one of the founders of the
Institute of Nuclear Physics, academician Kanysh Satpayev. The forum brought
together leading Kazakh and foreign specialists from 15 countries, including
Poland, Germany, Japan, China, and Belgium. Over the course of several days,
they will discuss the impact of nuclear science on medicine, industry,
agriculture, and the environment. The scientists also addressed the future
construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. According to them, this opens
up numerous prospects for the country, primarily in terms of ensuring energy
security.
«As the youngest specialist, I believe in
the future and that we are on the right path. This process cannot be limited to
10-20 years, we need to look hundreds of years ahead. The referendum results
showed that the majority voted in favor of building a nuclear power plant, indicating
a clear understanding of the necessity for our country to have this type of
energy generation, which will provide an impetus for future growth,» said Askhat
Bekbayev, deputy chief engineer at the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
«Kazakhstan has significant uranium reserves. Of
course, the construction of a nuclear power plant is important, as evidenced by
the referendum that took place in the country. It is essential to take into
account the opinion of the people. The steps being taken are aimed at the
country's well-being,» noted Nariaki Sakaba, spokesperson for the Japan Atomic
Energy Agency.
