Inflation growth slows in Kazakhstan

Inflation in Kazakhstan is declining, having slowed to 8.5 percent in May 2024. The most significant decrease, by more than two-fold, occurred in February this year when the rate dropped to 9.8 percent from a peak of 21.3 percent in 2023. Timur Suleimenov, the Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, outlined this in the Senate, an Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, while presenting a report on the country’s financial and economic situation.

«Тhe trend towards stabilizing inflationary processes has allowed us to gradually lower the base rate from 16.75 percent to 15.75 percent in 2023. This year, we have reduced the rate further to 14.5 percent. In pursuit of the medium-term inflation target of five percent, we will continue our disinflationary monetary policy,» Suleimenov said.

National citizen quality of life standard proposed for implementation in Kazakhstan

Supreme Audit Chamber Chairman Alikhan Smailov proposed enhancing the alignment of budgetary spending with achieving specific improvements in the quality of life of the population. To this end, he suggested introducing a unified national standard, which would allow for assessing the actual impact of budget expenditures on the welfare of Kazakh citizens.
