Flood control efforts continue in four regions of Kazakhstan

Flood control efforts are underway across Kazakhstan, including the Atyrau, Aktobe, North Kazakhstan, and West Kazakhstan regions. A gradual decrease in the water level of the Zhaiyk River in Oral is being observed. As noted by the relevant ministry, no new cases of flooding of residential buildings and other structures have been reported.

“As of today, over 30,000 people have returned to their homes. There are still 8,500 people, including 3,700 children, remaining in evacuation centers. Water has been drained and pumped out from over 5,670 residential buildings and more than 2,500 courtyard areas. Over 11 million cubic meters of meltwater have been pumped out, with the placement of more than five million sandbags and 1.5 million tonnes of inert material. The hotline has received over 2,200 calls. In total, more than 32,000 people and 4,000 units of equipment, including 773 water pumping means, 294 floating units, and 13 aircraft, are involved in emergency rescue and flood control efforts,” informed Askar Sharip, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations.
