Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has increased nearly fivefold from $109 million to $529 million since 2020. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the positive trend in the development of trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan during the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council in Baku.

“Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have significant economic potential, and I believe that further achievements are on the horizon. As mentioned earlier, our cooperation extends across various sectors, ranging from transportation and logistics to digitalization, as well as oil and gas. I am pleased that our delegations are successfully cooperating on the global stage, including at the United Nations and other international organizations. I anticipate this line of cooperation to be further continued,” Tokayev said.

The parties also discussed issues related to the development of cooperation in investment, oil and gas, transport and logistics spheres, as well as in the field of renewable energy sources and digital communications. President Tokayev particularly emphasized that Astana and Baku are demonstrating a high level of cooperation and developing new areas of joint work. The activities of the Supreme Interstate Council will give a powerful impetus to cooperation between the two states and contribute to elevating Kazakh-Azerbaijani relations to new heights.

“We have just had a comprehensive discussion covering all aspects of our trade, economic, and investment cooperation, as well as our interaction on the international stage. We have reached common conclusions, underscoring the fact that Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are indeed strategic partners and allied states. The prospects are highly promising, especially considering that the Governments will be engaged in implementing the agreements reached today through signed documents. The level of cooperation and interaction between our nations is notably high,” Tokayev added.

The heads of state noted that the implementation of agreements in the cultural sphere contributes to the strengthening of Kazakh-Azerbaijani cooperation. Sister city relations have been established between the sacred cities of Turkistan and Shusha, Oral and Mingachevir, as well as Shymkent and Ganja. Additionally, streets have been named after Akhmet Baitursynuly in the city of Sumgait and Heydar Aliyev in Astana to honor their legacies. Last year, the Days of Kazakh Culture were successfully held in Azerbaijan. Tomorrow, the leaders of the two countries will inaugurate the Kurmangazy Center for Children’s Creative Development in the city of Fuzuli.
