The general sponsor of the fifth
World Nomad Games has been announced in Astana. The Directorate for the
preparation and holding of international sports competitions has signed a corresponding
memorandum with one of the largest domestic electrical engineering companies.
According to the agreement, the commercial organization will allocate one
billion tenge to support the event. The total budget of the Games, currently
standing at 5.7 billion tenge, reaches eight billion tenge with contributions
from financial partners and sponsors.
«It is expected that most of
the funds will be allocated for purchasing air tickets for arriving athletes,
scientific project participants, and foreign guests representing ethnocultural
projects. According to our general sponsor, an additional portion of the funds
will be used to equip our national team. Moreover, 300 volunteers have
expressed interest in joining the 1,000 selected volunteers who will assist in
international competitions,» said Abylai Kondybayev, deputy head of the
directorate for preparation and hosting of the World Nomad Games.
The fifth World Nomad Games
feature three categories, including ethnosport, ethnoculture, and science. A
total of 97 medal sets are expected to be awarded across 21 sports at the
competitions in Astana. Notably, Arkan Tartys (Tug of War) has been included in
the competition program for the first time.
«We have invited athletes in
Zhamby Atu (horseback archery) across four styles from 15 countries, as well as
athletes in Arkan Tartys from 10 countries. We are 99 percent confident that in
these two sports, our team will secure the top prizes, including gold and
silver medals,» said ¤Yerkebulan Ilyassov, President of the National Sports
Federations for Zhamby Atu and Arkan Tartys.
Over 2,000 participants from 90
countries have already confirmed their participation in the competitions. For
the first time, countries such as Liberia, Venezuela, Ireland, the Dominican
Republic, and Gambia will take part in the Games. UNICEF has become an official
partner of the event, which is also supported by the World Ethnosport
Confederation (WEC) and UNESCO.
