The premiere of the unique play “The Romance of the Rosebud and the Butterfly” opened the international festival of professional choreographic educational institutions “Temps lié”. The new performance was presented on the stage of the Astana Ballet Theater. The legendary production of Marius Petipa to the music of Riccardo Drigo was staged by the guest ballet choreographer Vasily Medvedev. His idea was implemented by young dancers of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, which organized the festival. The ballet festival is dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence and will last until November 19. It will include a series of masterclasses, lectures and open lessons from leading Kazakh and foreign choreographers, which will take place in both offline and online formats.
“I am very grateful to Ms. Assylmuratova, who invited me. She and I conceived this project five years ago. There were 130 children in our play. We presented two acts of a ballet that was undeservedly forgotten, but we are reviving it. In general, the preparation took a long time. We spent our time recording music, creating a new libretto, making and creating costume sketches, and set design. Ballet school rehearsed for, like, two months,” Medvedev said.
