The Kazakh Transport
Ministry and the European Commission have officially inaugurated a Coordination
Platform of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor in Astana to facilitate
cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union by developing transport
infrastructure and implementing advanced technologies along the entire Middle
Corridor. The launching event was attended by representatives from TITR
countries, including Central Asian and Caucasus states, Türkiye, and
Azerbaijan, as well as major international financial organizations. This new
platform aims to transform the Middle Corridor into a multimodal and competitive
route, linking Europe and Asia in 15 days or less. Furthermore, its
implementation will help eliminate barriers, fostering the swift movement of
goods along the entire route.
«This involves customs
procedures, corridor digitization, tax procedures, including electronic ones,
and the conversion of cargo documents to electronic format. Another aspect of
the work will center on specific projects. Agreements with financial
institutions have been made, and specific funding levels have already been
established. Thus, the platform will facilitate the implementation of these
projects,» Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev said.
«Exactly a year ago in
Almaty, we have presented the results of the study on sustainable transport
connections between Europe and Central Asia. The study was funded by the
European Commission, led by the Commission, and conducted by EBRD. A year later, we are here in implementation
of the study following the January investment forum in Brussels, and today, we
are launching the coordination platform to continue working. So, this is an
important stage,» said Maja Bakran, Deputy Director-General for the European
Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport.
