Domestic scientists are currently
studying the Kazakh genome. DNA profiling will aid in identifying genetic
predispositions to certain diseases, thus shaping the course of future medical
advancements. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, briefed on the new developments
during a meeting of Nazarbayev University’s (NU) Supreme Board of Trustees,
instructed to bolster partnerships with industrial enterprises for the commercialization
of scientific projects. Scientists also showcased their laboratories, where
they are engaged in the development of artificial intelligence, innovations in
optoelectronics, and the creation of a new effective cancer drug.
“Extensive work on the
development of an anticancer medication is currently underway. We have already
completed the initial studies of the first and second phases of the DVC drug,
revealing promising results. Production of this medication is actively ongoing
in Almaty. We will continue with clinical trials to determine the most
tolerable dosage of the medicine in order to achieve the maximum treatment
efficacy,” said Dos Sarbassov, General Director of the National Laboratory
Astana.
This is not the sole ambitious
project pursued by the NU scientists. The developers of modern IT programs in
the Kazakh language are also making significant contributions.
“We have demonstrated our skills,
vision, and objectives, as well as presented the projects we are currently
undertaking, focusing on computer vision, AI integration in medicine, augmented
reality, and speech technology models designed for the Kazakh language. For
example, the Soyle model automatically transcribes spoken words into text,
while the Tilmash automatic translator can interpret into six languages,
including Kazakh. We believe it is necessary to strengthen and increase
computational power, a goal already being pursued by the government,” said
Yerbol Absalyamov, Deputy Director of Operations at NU’s Institute of Smart
Systems and Artificial Intelligence.
