Cataphote reflectors appear on Kazakhstan’s national highways

New innovative road developments are being introduced in Kazakhstan. Now the so-called cataphote reflectors with a two-color combination of red and yellow made by domestic scientists are being tested on some sections of national highways. According to experts, they are used to ensure road safety and reduce the risk of accidents. The technology is particularly effective at night.

“Road workers together with domestic developers are testing innovative cataphote reflectors on turnes, rounded sections of national highways. To date, two experimental sections have been selected. Thus, light reflectors are installed at the 41 kilometers of the Astana-Shchuchinsk road and the 1358 kilometers of the Astana-Temirtau road. These are some of the highest-density highways in the country, where up to 30,000 vehicles can pass per day,” said Lyazzat Stamgaziyeva, spokesperson for the Qazavtojol National Company.

It bears noting that solar-powered cataphotes were previously tested on the Astana-Petropavl highway. They attract the attention of drivers at dangerous road sections and make noise when they cross a solid marking line. This allows to reduce the likelihood of driving into the oncoming traffic lane and avoid head-on collisions or getting into a ditch.
