A book “Katartobe. Necropolis of Saka elite of Zhetysu” was presented today at the National Museum of Kazakhstan. This is the joint work of researchers from two countries, Kazakhstan and South Korea. The archaeologists studied one of the areas in Almaty region for three years, and results of these works entered the book, which was published in Korean language as well. The publication included new data about the society of that time, anthropology, social status, economy, burials and others. More than a thousand of findings and artifacts were collected in total, which have already been presented at the country’s main museum. The National Museum of Kazakhstan and the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of South Korea signed a memorandum on further close cooperation in archaeology field.
“The joint expeditions will be carried out in Kazakhstan. We can go for internship to Korea, learn from their experience, as they do. Such joint researches are conducted and planned to be conducted. A lot of research has been held over three years of excavations. Very interesting data have been found, but the work is needed to be continued,” said Saule Rakhimzhanova, Researcher, National Museum of Kazakhstan.
