Astana scientists present projects useful for construction industry

Scientists from Astana intend to introduce their innovative developments into the construction market of Kazakhstan. To this end, they have become participants of the commercialization reactor held by the Science Fund. The goal is to attract investors, one of whom is Professor Askar Zhussupbekov from Gumilyov Eurasian National University, for co-financing, then receive a grant of up to 350 million tenge and monetize their project. Together with a team of young scientists, he created a unique geoinformation database, which is designed to systematize the results of research on the soil space of Kazakhstan’s cities and metropolises. The project had already won various grants, with the help of which the underground space of Almaty and Astana was partially studied. The plans include expanding the research areas in these cities, as well as conducting similar work in the western part of the country and other regions of Kazakhstan.

“Heavy rains wash away the soil and alter its properties in Astana. We studied soil foundations since accurate forecasting and correct determination of load-bearing capacity are essential for the safe operation of buildings and structures. Many builders and design organizations rely on preliminary determination of physical and mathematical properties to understand what type of foundations they will have when applying for tenders,” said Zhussupbekov.

This time, scientists have presented a total of eight projects, including various monitoring systems, technologies, and innovations in the field of housing and road construction.

“The main areas of reactors are aimed at integrating science and business. Commercialization is the key factor that allows the scientific developments of domestic researchers to be implemented in industry, construction, medicine, and other sectors. Since 2023, our fund has been conducting reactors in narrow specialties. This commercialization reactor is focused on construction as it dynamically influences the economic development,” said Science Fund CEO Kamil Akatov.

As noted in the Science Fund, the commercialization reactor has been held in Kazakhstan since last year. Half of its participants have already received grants to promote their projects.
