The Astana Opera House, known for
its filigree orchestral sound, outstanding music by Kazakh composers, the
highest level of production, magnificent voices, authentic settings and radiant
costumes of the artists, opened its new 11th season with the “Abai” opera by
Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamidi on a libretto of Mukhtar Auezov. Although the
legendary performance has long been an integral part of the Astana Opera’s
repertoire, it reached new heights under the guidance of principal conductor
Alan Buribayev, who did a tremendous and painstaking work on the sheet music.
Thanks to his skill and all those involved in the production, the “Abai” opera earned
its place alongside the immortal classics of the world stage, according to the
spectators. Famous soloists of the theater graced the stage at the grand
opening of the season. Zhanat Shybykbayev and Meir Bainesh delivered compelling
performances in the leading roles, Aigul Niyazova performed the character of
Azhar, while Tatyana Vitsinskaya masterfully portrayed the role of Karlygash.
“Today’s holiday marks the
beginning of a new decade. We have crossed the 10-year milestone and opened our
11th season, yet it feels like the theatre was inaugurated just yesterday. We
have achieved so much with our premieres and artists, who have always been deeply
connected with our audience. The theatre places the promotion of national art
in the first place. We have performed the “Abai” opera many times at home and
abroad. I think it is symbolic that this masterpiece has become a hallmark of
our theatre,” said Buribayev.
