An open children’s tournament in assyk atu was held at the
National Museum of Kazakhstan. Students from 15 schools across various cities
of the country competed in accuracy and agility. According to the organizers,
assyk atu also helps participants develop attentiveness and self-control.
Moreover, this traditional sport is accessible to everyone, regardless of age,
gender, or physical abilities. The main goal of the tournament is to promote
traditions and a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation. Notably, the
assyk game was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2017.
«Through play, a child develops logically, engaging with
elements of strategy, while also forming a sense of national identity.
Spiritual values are instilled as well. Children play, on the one hand, gaining
new knowledge, and on the other, absorbing information. When you play with
passion, character always shines through, and patriotism begins to take shape,»
noted Yeskendir Rakhmetov, President of the Assyk Oiyny Federation in Astana.
«I play Bes Assyk, the game helps me develop mentally and
also trains my hands. I enjoy playing it. These days, we play a bit differently
than before. First, we learn new variations of the game, and once we’ve
mastered them, we start learning the traditional rules as well,» shared school
student Aizere Artykbai.
