Dolls made of polymer clay, textiles, felt,
and porcelain were displayed at an international exhibition of the author’s
dolls, «Asia Doll,» in Almaty. The exposition with 150 artistic pieces, created
by masters from Kazakhstan and the CIS using different techniques, is taking
place in the country for the fifth time. The artisans – among them doctors,
lawyers, and top managers – remark that each doll takes from several weeks to
several months to complete and is always a unique, single edition. One of the
foremost collections in the exposition is «The Golden Age of the Silk Road».
These dolls seem to revive the history of Kazakhstan, preserving the cultural
heritage and centuries-old traditions. Notably, these domestic works hold
esteemed places in private collections and galleries worldwide.
«Our girls are trying to show how bright
and cool it was for us when silks arrived here, when we had a large selection
of stones, and how our masters worked with fabrics. This is the fifth
independent exhibition. One year, we were curators of another doll artist
exhibition; now, it is the only exhibition of its kind in Kazakhstan,» said
exhibition curator Tatyana Semyonova.
