Al Jazeera Week has concluded in
Astana. For the first time in both Kazakhstan and Central Asia, over 80
students from Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) were able to acquire unique
knowledge and advanced experience from top experts at the global media giant.
Prior to the ceremony of awarding certificates from the Qatari television
channel, each participant in the training program defended a course project in
the field of TV journalism. It is worth noting that these courses were
organized with the support of the TV and Radio Complex of the President of
Kazakhstan.
“I found the practical sessions
to be the most engaging. I chose training courses in TV presenting and gained a
wealth of valuable knowledge from international experts. They taught us to maintain
our journalistic integrity even in times of stressful situations, guiding us on
professional conduct and problem-solving skills,” said Khadisha Yeleussin, a student
at the MNU International School of Journalism.
“I was in a course of Resul Atas.
He is a reporter, and he is a presenter, and he works a lot on war places, on
earthquake places. So he tells us about his experience, how to work when you
are in stress, when you don’t have a camera, when you don’t have people to help
you. It’s hard but it’s a really good job,” said ¤Amina Kozybakova, a student
at the MNU International School of Journalism.
According to MNU Provost Sergey
Pen, the opportunity for students to learn from professionals with real
experience in reporting from conflict zones and conducting objective
journalistic investigations is a significant step forward for future Kazakh
correspondents. This is how students refine their craft and acquire practical
skills in line with global standards.
“We have successfully signed a
memorandum of cooperation with the Al Jazeera Media Institute. We hope that
this program will become institutional, meaning it will be either permanent or
held at least once a year, with Al Jazeera trainers coming to enhance the skills
of our students. We also hope that graduates of this program will form their
own community to demonstrate that we provide the best opportunities for our top
students,” MNU Provost Sergey Pen said.
It is noteworthy that the MNU International
School of Journalism is committed to ongoing advancement. Future plans include
forging partnerships with other leading global news agencies and TV channels.
