The Zhamanshin crater in Yrgyz district of Aktobe region is a unique object for the development of ecotourism. It was formed about a million years ago as a result of the fall of a meteorite. Scientists believe that a comet with a diameter of 400 meters exploded during impact with Earth. At the same time, the heating temperature reached 1,700 degrees Celsius. As a result, the rock that melted down during the impact and explosion of the space body, began to be called “irgizite” and “zhamanshinite”. Their number in this area has noticeably decreased recently. Therefore, it is important to preserve the unique object and use it for tourism purposes, experts say.
“There are many tourists from Russia. They come in the summer for a few days, live here, get energized. That is why I think that the tourist potential of the Zhamanshin crater is huge. We just need support,” said Aiymgul Orazymbetova, Mayor of the Yrgyz Rural District.
