Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev met with Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Renat
Bekturov to review the outcomes of the centre’s activities. The AIFC has
attracted over $11 billion since its inception, including $3.5 billion in 2023
and the first quarter of 2024. A record number of new participants, over 670
companies, joined the AIFC last year. More than 2,600 companies representing 78
countries are registered at present. Tokayev set tasks for the development of
the financial hub, particularly attracting green financing to the region and
enhancing the potential of the Middle Corridor.
“According to the Global
Financial Centres Index ranking, the AIFC is the leading hub for green finance
in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The issuance of green Eurobonds totaling
100 billion tenge by the Development Bank of Kazakhstan for the first time in
history marks one of the largest deals. Based on the report, the Head of State
has instructed to work on establishing the AIFC as a regional financial hub,
enhance its investment attractiveness through international financial centers,
promote it on the international stage, and increase its business activity,”
Bekturov said.
