The 14th
International «Astana Mining and Metallurgy» Congress is underway in the Kazakh
capital. This year, one of the key industry events in Central Asia has
attracted around 1,300 delegates from 20 countries. The main theme of the forum is «The Era of
Metals – Challenges and Solutions.» According to experts, it highlights
Kazakhstan’s potential in the extraction and processing of rare earth metals,
which are now considered «new oil» and represent a crucial sector of the
country’s economy.
«The mining
industry is currently fundamental to our economy and will remain so even in
this new era, when demand for metals is changing, and the overall market
dynamics are shifting. In general, Kazakhstan is prepared for this. I believe that we have the potential
to develop in this area and expand our presence in the global supply chain,» said
Kanat Sharlapayev, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction.
